Youth Trips Away 2024

We try to keep the cost of your child's participation in our youth work to a minimum and we know that residential trips are the most expensive things we do. Therefore, we want to let you know about the two residentials that we'll be running in 2024. Beyond these two events, we're not planning on having any other overnight trips away.

We've included the details of two residential opportunities below. Please read through the following information and then use the link at the bottom to book on. This page will remain here through 2024 so that you can come back to it for all the relevant information regarding cost and equipment.

We don't want the cost of these residentials to stop anyone from attending. Gateway Church subsidises these events to try to keep the cost to families down, but if the costs are going to be a barrier to attending, please talk to Caleb or Izzi about further subsidies. We're also open to talking about spreading the payments over a longer period of time if that is helpful to you.

Youth Weekend Away

When?

19-21 April 2024. Meeting at 5pm on Friday in the Gateway Centre car park, back to the same location at 3pm on Sunday.

We'll provide a meal when we get there, but that won't be until 7pm at least. So please ensure all young people have a snack before they come.

Where?

Knock Christian Centre, near Appleby-in-Westmorland

What?

A weekend of fun activities, worship, teaching, winter walks, hot chocolate and more!

We're attempting to keep costs down by transporting young people in cars. Along with several leaders, we're keen to find any parents who might be willing to take a car load of young people and/or bring a car load back at the end. Please chat to us if you might be able to help in this way. We can reimburse your fuel costs.

How much?

£45 - which includes accommodation, food, transport and activities.

For those with multiple siblings attending, the first child will be £45, the second £35 and the third £25. i.e. booking on two children will cost £80, and three children will cost £105.

With the short timeframe between booking and the event, we're not taking deposits. Instead, please book on your young person via the form at the bottom of this page, and pay the fee in full.

Pay by bank transfer, using the reference "YWA24 SURNAME" (changing SURNAME to the young person's surname)

Account Name:   Gateway York CIO

Sort Code:   40-52-40

Account No: 00029401

Or cheques made payable to "Gateway (York) CIO" or give cash (in a marked envelope) to Caleb or Izzi.

What to bring?

Sleeping bag and pillow (+ blanket if it’s a thin sleeping bag)

Changes of clothes (including warm clothes for being outdoors in January). Bring several pairs of warm socks, and possibly some slippers for the cold mornings.

Toiletries

Towel

Any medication you may need (boxed and labelled)

No pocket money required for this one, as there's nowhere to spend it!

Young people are allowed to bring mobile phones, but please do not bring any other portable electronic devices. Also, having not used this venue before, we do not know how much mobile signal there will be. If bringing a phone, remember the phone charger.

Newday 2024

When?

29 July to 3 August 2024 (with a small advance party heading down to set up on Sunday 28 July). The coach will leave from the Gateway car park at 8.30am on Monday 29 July, and return around 3.00pm on Saturday 3rd August.

Where?

Norfolk Showground, near Norwich

What?

Newday is an annual event gathering thousands of young people during the summer holidays. It is run by Newfrontiers, the family of churches that Gateway is part of. The event consists of seminars, worship, teaching, sports tournaments and camping. We want to be clear on this; there are a lot of worship meetings. If your young person is not interested in the Christian faith, then they will probably not enjoy Newday!

There will be several youth leaders going along from the Lightz (Friday nights) and Ignite (Sunday morning) youth teams. We’re hoping to take around 30 young people from Gateway between the ages of 11-19, and we’ll join around 6000 other young people from churches across the UK.

We’ll be catering for the young people 3 meals a day for the whole time we’re there. We’ll all be staying in tents (we have some at Gateway, but if you have one that you’d be willing to lend us for the week, please do let us know)

How much?

The cost of Newday will be £175 per person. If you have more than one young person in your household coming along, the second young person’s place will cost £125 and the third £75. The price includes a Newday ticket, all food (except on the first travel day) and transport. A small amount of pocket money is also useful when there.

If you return your form and deposit after Friday 27th January then the total cost will go up to £190 as Newday ticket prices rise at this point. If you pay your deposit after the 1st April the price will rise further to £200.

The Early Bird pricing has now finished, so places cost £200 for the first young person, with second siblings at £150 and third at £100.

To secure a place, please complete the booking form linked at the bottom and pay a non-refundable £25 deposit (per young person) by Friday 26th January . The balance will need to be paid by the end of June. Please note that if you withdraw your booking after 30th April 2024, due to Newday's refund policy, we will still require you to pay the full amount (unless we manage to fill the place with another young person).

Pay by bank transfer, using the reference "ND24 SURNAME" (changing SURNAME to the young person's surname)

Account Name:   Gateway York CIO

Sort Code:   40-52-40

Account No: 00029401

Or cheques made payable to "Gateway (York) CIO" or give cash (in a marked envelope) to Caleb or Izzi.

What to bring?

Sleeping bag and pillow (+ blanket if it’s a thin sleeping bag)

Air bed or roll mat or camp bed.

Changes of clothes (including some warm clothes for the evenings)

PJs

Sensible shoes for mud! (you may find wellies useful if the weather is wet. Flip-flops are sometimes a good option too)

Sliders/flip flops for the showers

A clean carrier bag to keep clothes dry when showering

Toiletries

Towel

Tea towel – essential!

Plate, cup, bowl + knife, fork and spoon (you can bring them all in your canvas bag if you have come before and still have it)

Torch

Any medication you may need (boxed and labelled)

Sun cream, sun hat, water bottle

Waterproofs

Some spending money for snacks, merch etc

Packed lunch (or money) for the journey down to Norfolk. We provide a packed lunch for the return bus journey, but if they want to purchase food on the way home, ensure that they bring enough with them (and instruct them not to spend it!)

Bible and pen

Fold up camping chairs are very useful too, please bring one if you have one!

A rucksack or small bag is useful for carrying items around the campsite.

Cake or baked goodies– everyone brings a cake so that we can share them at supper time with hot chocolate.

Please note, we recommend that your child doesn’t bring any expensive electronic devices or other valuables with them as we cannot keep them secure – anything they do bring is entirely at their own risk. Mobile phones are permitted, and we provide a facility to charge them. Remember your phone charger if bringing a phone.

Rules & Expectations

Be kind to one another and to the leaders.

Listen to and follow instructions from the leaders.

You will be expected to help on a washing up rota.

Both daily main meetings are mandatory - you can't opt out because you're tired or "not feeling up to it". We walk to these together as a group and we sit together throughout. Seminars and other activities are optional.

Go to the toilet on the way to the main meetings so you don't need to leave during the meeting.

When moving around the site, you MUST be in a group of 2 or more.

Tell a leader before you head away from the camp to an activity.

Come back to the camp as soon as venues close at 11.00pm

You must come to the dining marquee for each of the 3 daily meals, even if you aren't hungry. They're our key check-in points during the day.

You cannot leave the site without a leader accompanying you.

Go to bed when the leaders tell you it's bedtime.

Afternoon naps are allowed, but only if you went to bed when you were told the night before.

If you get hungry, help yourself to fruit in the marquee, or buy something from a venue. Do not help yourself to any other food supplies in the marquee.

No eating an hour before main meals (even fruit).

You must shower at least once every 2 days. Just don't go before a meal or meeting as queues can be long.

No alcohol or illegal substances allowed. Talk to a leader if you smoke/vape to understand expectations about when/where.

Females are not allowed in male tents. Males are not allowed in female tents.
