Together Nick and I lead a life group which is wonderfully hosted by Ian and Bev Wright.
I'm Nick, married to Margie, and part of Gateway church since 2014 when we moved to York. We are both approved foster carers and enjoy monthly visits from a lively 10-year old girl. I spent most of my career as an accountant in the charity sector, with a stint at Joseph Rowntree here in York. I'm now working on developing a smallholding and wildlife site. If I could, I'd spend most days on the river just pottering about. We are privileged to lead a life group where we aim to learn together, hear from God and encourage and pray for each other.
I am originally from Guatemala in Central America. I moved to the UK in 2009 with my British wife Jenny and we have been happily settled in York ever since. Global mission is also very much on my agenda – I long to see the nations find hope in Jesus. My other interests include: nursing, travel, hanging out with family and friends, going the gym, and most importantly...chocolate!

I've been coming to Gateway for about four years and can honestly say it has become my home and I've made some amazing friends and new family through the congregation. Within Gateway, I work as a Debt Coach for CAP. I love meeting new people and having the amazing opportunity of being able to bring Jesus into their lives as well as practically giving people solutions to get out of debt. Together with my husband Alex I lead a Lifegroup. I'm also part of the kids team and help out two Sundays a month worshipping and playing with the vast amount of children that are a part of our Gateway family. On Thursday afternoons I help lead in SHINE, an after school club, which continues to amaze me as I see God work in the lives of so many children. At home I'm a busy mum and I love meeting up for coffee and cake. I also love reading, walking and going camping in our very beat up "vintage" caravan.
My wife Lucy and our two children, Rebecca and Oliver, moved from east London to Acomb in 2010 before having our third child, Samuel, in 2014. I commute to work in Leeds and often coax colleagues into jogging along the canal during lunch. When I'm not a taxi driver for the family you may also see me jogging around York engrossed in some podcast. At Gateway I am part of the youth team (Lights!) and lead a Lifegroup.
My wife, Tineke, and I moved to York in 2016. I've spent my life teaching English as a Foreign Language, including 20 years in Africa, and we're now enjoying retirement. I've been involved with the Fairtrade movement for a long time, and I also work with BookAid, collecting Bibles and Christian books for developing countries. The Food Bank and Friends International also occupy some of my time. And supporting Nottingham Forest (twice European champions) has been a preoccupation since childhood.
I'm from the Netherlands, and I was a teacher there, before moving to Zambia. I met Derryck there, and we married and eventually moved to Zimbabwe, before coming to England and settling in Whitby. After a few years working with WEC International in Buckinghamshire, we moved to York, and joined Gateway. I spend one day a week working with Family Matters, and I am also involved with Friends International, maintaining our link with overseas students. In 2017 both our daughter and our daughter-in-law presented us with grandsons, and that's brought a new and very welcome dimension to our lives.
