19th May 2010: Helping Hands Gift Day

For some time, 10% of our weekly cash offering from each Sunday has gone straight into a fund that is distributed to those who are most in need in our community. It might pay for a new washing machine when someone needs one but can't afford it. It might be used to pay for paint to redecorate someone's house who doesn't have enough money themselves. We call this fund the Helping Hands fund. In Acts 2:42-47 we see "all the believers were together and had everything in common. Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need." It's this kind of fellowship that we are seeking to imitate.

During recent times, we've seen our country go into a serious recession.  While there is hope for recovery, there are many people in our community that are still struggling for work. We obviously have to be realistic about what we can do, but we’d like to be in a position to make a significant difference to a few people, helping them to get through a difficult period or to get back on their feet.

For the Helping Hands fund to have more impact, we would like to see it grow. This Sunday (23rd May) we will be having a Gift Day where the whole of the offering will go directly into the Helping Hands fund. All of this money will go directly to those in need. Please prayerfully consider how much you would like to give to this fund, and bring your offering to the meeting on Sunday morning. You can give by cash or by cheque (payable to Gateway Church). If you would like to add to the offering but are unable to come along on Sunday please feel free to place an envelope marked "Helping Hands" in the offering over the next few weeks.
